Herbal Peels vs Chemical Peels: Which Is Right for Your Skin?
If you have been looking into skin resurfacing Singapore treatments, you have likely come across both herbal peels and chemical peels. The names alone can be enough to put some people off—"peel" is not the most reassuring word in skincare. But used correctly and for the right skin type, peels are one of the most effective tools available for improving skin texture, tone, and clarity.
At Avere Studio, a premier boutique skin studio Singapore, we offer herbal peel Singapore treatments as part of our non-medical facial menu. Here is what you need to understand about how they work and whether they might be right for you.
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel in Singapore uses an acidic solution (typically glycolic, lactic, salicylic, or trichloroacetic acid) to remove the outermost layers of skin. The degree of exfoliation depends on the acid type and concentration used. Light peels cause minimal to no visible peeling and require little to no downtime. Deeper peels penetrate further into the skin and require more significant recovery time.
Chemical skin peel Singapore options can be highly effective for pigmentation, acne scarring, uneven skin tone, and surface congestion. However, deeper peels must be performed under medical supervision and are not offered at a non-medical studio level.
What is a herbal peel?
A herbal facial peel treatment uses a blend of botanical ingredients (plant extracts, enzymes, and natural acids) to gently dissolve dead skin cells and stimulate the skin's renewal process. The action is more gradual and gentler than a clinical chemical peel, making herbal peels well-suited to sensitive skin types and those new to resurfacing treatments.
Herbal peels improve skin texture and radiance, help with mild congestion, and can support a more even skin tone, without the downtime or sensitivity risk associated with stronger acid peels.
Which is better?
The honest answer: it depends entirely on your skin and your goals. For severe pigmentation, significant acne scarring, or deeper skin concerns, a medical-grade chemical peel under practitioner supervision is likely the more effective route. For general resurfacing, glow improvement, and maintenance between stronger treatments, a herbal peel is a wonderful, lower-risk option.
At Avere Studio, we will always give you an honest assessment of what your skin needs. If we believe a concern is better addressed through medical treatment, we will tell you, and we can refer you to our sister clinic, Avere Aesthetics, for a medical consultation.
Is there any downtime with a herbal peel?
Most clients experience mild flaking or dryness in the days following a herbal peel as the skin renews itself—this is normal and expected. It is not the dramatic "peeling" that the name might suggest. Most people are comfortable returning to daily activities immediately after treatment.
We recommend avoiding active exfoliants for a week following a herbal peel and applying SPF diligently, as freshly renewed skin is more sensitive to UV exposure.
